Acid, Solvent, or Flammable Cabinet Vent
Lab installers often call Scientific Plastics inquiring about venting. We recommend using only our polyolefin vents, both for meeting LEED and SEFA recommendations. Remember: PVC is never recommended!
The SEFA standard states:
When a plastic product for venting of hazardous storage cabinets is specified, it is recommended that polyolefin pipe be used.(ASTM 1412 non-corrosive) PVC piping is not recommended for venting, as it will burn black if ignited and produce chlorine gas.
The cabinet should be vented from the bottom or the top depending on the reagents stored, lighter than air chemicals need vents located at the top of the cabinet.
For a complete line of Acid, Solvent, and Flammable Cabinet venting systems, check out Scientific Plastics. We can build a cabinet vent to your specification for penetrating a fume hood work surface; tying into the fume hood vent; or for a stand alone flammable cabinet.
